The driver C.P.C. started in September 2009. All drivers of vehicles over 3.5 T must attend driver CPC courses to enable them to continue working. Training can be spread over five years in seven hour training sessions or can be taken together in one 35 hour block
Under the European Agreement on ADR, drivers of vehicles with tanks and certain tank components, and some drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods in packages, must hold a special vocational certificate of training, sometimes referred to informally as an 'ADR Certificate'. This certificate is issued by the Scottish Qualifications Board and any training carried out must be supplied by an approved training organization such as Don Hunter Training Services Ltd
EC Directive 96/35 requires companies involved in the transport, distribution and loading of dangerous goods consigned by road, rail or inland waterway to appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser ( DGSA). DGSA's are responsible for helping to prevent the adverse consequences of the risks inherent in such activities in relation to people, property and the environment. The directive requires that DGSAs shall be qualified by having taken and passed an approved examination and that they shall have been issued with a Vocational Training Certificate VTC before taking up their duties. In the U.K. this vocational training certificate is issued by the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) .
